Welcome to the Department of History at New Mexico State University! As part of the College of Arts and Sciences, our department is comprised of 7 full-time faculty, and offers excellent undergraduate and graduate programs in a number of geographic and thematic areas. Our faculty have earned national and international recognition for their scholarship, and are equally committed to teaching diverse students about our world.

Minor teaching and research fields include: the history of the United States, Europe, Asia, Russia, Latin America, U.S.-Mexico Borderlands, the Middle East, and the History of Science. Across these fields we also offer teaching and research strengths in thematic areas, such as the history of gender, Public History, political economy, transnationalism, cultural studies, race and ethnicity, among others. As part of our department’s graduate curriculum we prepare students in broad thematic fields that are uniquely comparative and interdisciplinary in approach.
